Low Carb Soft Drinks

When I was shopping at Wal-Mart on Saturday a little old lady handed me a sample of Pepsi Edge. I had been wanting to try it, so I gladly took a couple of sips. A few steps later I dumped what was left in the trash.

Coke C2 and Pepsi Edge: Ingenious marketing. You get half the sugar of the regular drink with all of the sickening, chemical taste you’ve come to expect from diet sodas that have no sugar at all. I wonder how many people on “low carb” diets will quit drinking Diet Pepsi and switch to Pepsi Edge just because it says it’s low in carbs? They should have just changed Diet Pepsi to “Carbless Pepsi.” But then I guess people would have complained that "Diet Pepsi just doesn't taste the same now that they take out the carbs and the sugar."

I've never liked the taste of anything diet. When people say that stuff tastes the same to them, I always want to give them a hug and say "You just keep telling yourself that man... I admire your resolve."
The low carb thing (whatever you might think of it appropriately practiced) seems horribly misused. I've met more people that are on the diet and doing absolutely no exercise than I care to remember. How do people think drinking a really gross cola beverage and lounging on the couch is going to make them lose weight?

Well, I can vouch for Pepsi Edge, but I really like the C2 cola. It doesn't take exactly like regular Coke, but it's pretty close. And besides, you don't have to be on a low-carb diet to drink this stuff. I for one appreciate that they are making a lower-in-sugar drink that doesn't taste like aspertaime, which has a horrible taste. If they would stock the stuff here at work, I'd drink it like a mad man, as I love Coke. Love it.
It's just like the new cereals they have that are half the sugar of their normal selves. I think it's a wonderful idea. Giving kids less sugar? How could this possibly be a bad thing?

There's nothing bad about less sugar, of course, provided it still tastes good and -- as Michael pointed out -- people aren't pretending that it's a substitute for exercise. Low sugar soda is still soda.

Not that I'm some kind of a health nut. I don't have any tan lines and I get winded taking out the trash.

I think we're all in agreement that there is no substitute for exercise. No matter what you eat (or don't eat), activity is always a good thing.

I should also point out that in my first post I said "I can vouch for Pepsi Edge" and that should have been "I can't vouch for Pepsi Edge". I've never tried the stuff so I don't know what it tastes like.
